How We Help

Consult

Lost dog rescue begins with a conversation to understand how the dog became lost, gather any information about where the dog may have been sighted, and develop a plan to search for the dog.

Search

The first step in a lost dog search is to get sightings of the dog by raising awareness that the dog is lost. When a sighting provides a lead to the dog’s location, our trapper can then become familiar with that area and set up feeding stations to draw the dog to a specific spot where a trap can be set.

We do not use tracking dogs in searches.

Rescue

Rescuing a lost dog is most often done by luring the dog into a humane trap. This is usually a delicate, time-intensive process that involves learning the dog’s pattern of behavior, determining which kind of trap is right for the dog, and creating a setting that allows the dog to feel comfortable entering the trap. Some dogs are trapped within hours, while others take weeks or months.

Once rescued, dogs are immediately transported back to their families. Stray dogs are taken to the local shelter.

Gatekeeper K9 Rescue does not charge for services. If someone claims to work with the rescue and asks for money, they are lying and trying to scam you. Do not send them any money and discontinue communication immediately.
